Kiyah Wright and the Secret Behind Tyra Banks Beautiful Hair

Source: talkingmakeup.com

Kiyah Wright is an Emmy award winning celebrity hair stylist who created the signature looks for stars like: Tyra Banks, Mary J. Blidge, IMAN, Brandy, Jennifer Hudson, Faith Evans, Gabrielle Union and more.

Kiyah Wright
Celebrity Hair Stylist Kiyah Wright.

Kiyah was asked by Marta Walsh in an interview for Beauty Interviews about the secret behind Tyra Banks beautiful hair. This is what Kiyah had to say: “Well, of course a girl never tells her beauty secrets, but many of Tyra’s styles were created from her inspiration for either the top model season, award shows, or just me suggesting” hey Tyra lets do something super hot this season” and she is always super open about trying something new for the season…”

Tyra Banks and IMAN

Kiyah regards working with Tyra Banks as some of her most memorable celebrity collaborations. This is why: “…Also, as you all know, working with Tyra was such an innovative experience, traveling, meeting people, and just having adapting the relationship with Tyra alone was just extremely rewarding. I’ve learned so much in working with her and the Tyra show team.”

Her simple advice on how to treat textured or African-America hair: “Texture hair is always in need of moisture, conditioning, and a good stylist who understands their hair type. Most stylists are not trained to understand our hair, so a lot of Caucasian stylist will turn them away.”

Pureology Serious Colour Care, Celebrities & The Tony Awards

Source: talkingmakeup.com

THE 62nd ANNUAL TONY AWARDS: “Oh What a Night” Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons might as well have been talking about a night filled with the most talented performers on Broadway, the 62nd Annual Tony Awards June 15th at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

PureOlogy Serious Colour Care shined at the Tony’s last night as the haircare sponsor of the Official Presenter Gift Lounge at the 62nd Annual Tony Awards.

PureOlogy was onsite in the Gift Lounge backstage at Radio City Music Hall with National Artistic Team Member, who provided expert advice and treated participating talent to one of three “PureExperiences”, customized styling consultations. Each received expert advice on which PureOlogy products are best for their hair type and walked away with the best products to meet their individual needs.

See below for highlights from the event as well as top guests:

Before she headed out to host the main event, Whoopi Goldberg consulted with PureOlogy National Artistic Team Member Mary Katherine Hecht for the ultimate hair advice. Mary Katherine recommended the NanoWorks Shampoo and Condition. Whoopi was excited to try the product especially when she found out that it was 100% Vegan.

Lipstick Jungles, Brooke Shields made her way through the suite with her beautiful daughter on her hip. As she breezed through the PureOlogy booth she couldn’t pass up the ColourMax, since she plans on spending countless hours in the sun with her children.

The talented Mary Louise Parker fell in love with the HydrateShampoo and Condition for her daughter. She mentioned “My daughter has an afro, she needs hydration put back into her hair.”

Adam Duritz, lead singer of the Counting Crows, was extremely friendly passing through the lounge on his way to present. “I remember the minty fresh smell of PureOlogy” states Duritz. PureArtist Mary Katherine knew he was talking about HydrateShampoo and Condition.

Two Baldwin’s are better than one. Alec and Steven Baldwin came through the suite together in their tuxes. Alec headed straight for the HoldFast. As he squirted a large amount of the gel on a napkin and rubbed his finger through it, he states “I know gel, and THIS is good gel.” Steven was no stranger to the product as he knew his wife was a fan. Both Baldwin’s walked away with gift bags filled with product.

Harry Connick Jr. stopped by the suite with his daughter Georgia. As we gifted his daughter with some products from our Luxury line, we also gifted Harry with NanoWax. When he saw the wax in the bag, Harry stated “I will definitely be through this by the end of the night; I’ve been known to kill people for hair products.”

David Hyde Pierce has become extremely interested in vegan products so we were pleased to gift David, NanoWax, PurifyShampoo, ColourMax and HoldFast to prepare David’s hair for the upcoming summer months.

The talented Laurence Fishburne and his wife were excited to hear about PureOlogy, when we mentioned to the couple that the line is 100% Vegan, Laurence did a little groove, he was so excited and couldn’t wait to try the product.

Laura Bell Bundy of Legally Blonde on Broadway stopped by PureOlogy and stocked up on some ColourMax. She was heading to the beach this week and we explained to Laura Bell that this is the must have product for the summer months. ColourMax is a great detangler and the ultimate protector from the sun. Laura Bell was frightened that her hair would turn green from the pool water; Mary Katherine explained to her that ColourMax would prevent that from happening.

It would not be the Tony’s unless the original cast of Rent showed up. The suite was packed with some of the most talented actors in the business, from Mimi, Roger to Angel, all were in love with the product and couldn’t wait to go home and try the 100% Vegan products.

Pureology: Hot Tips For Summer Haircare

Source: talkingmakeup.com

I am a big fan of Pureology haircare products. Not sure I mentioned this before, but it is all I use on my hair these days. I clearly see the difference in my locks. My blonde highlights look clean and as fresh as when I got them, almost 3 weeks ago. What I use is Pureology Hydrate System-the purple bottles, and I can’t wait to try the entire line (you know how it’s like when you get obsessed about a beauty product, right?).

This is why I am excited to bring to you hot tips for summer hair by Pureology. Here it is:

Perform deep repair treatments twice a week to protect and repair sun-damaged hair.

Heading to the beach or pool? Don’t rinse out your conditioner. Leave conditioner in hair for maximum protection and extra moisturizing benefits.

Pureology Leave-In Conditioner
Pureology Serious Colour Care Leave-In-Condition.

Protect your hair from sun damage at the beach or pool by applying ColourMax before and after sun exposure.

Pureology ColourMax
Pureology Serious Colour Care ColourMax.

Thoroughly wet your hair before getting into the water at the pool or beach. This will help avoid absorption of pool or ocean water. For even more protection, spray your hair with ColourMax before and after swimming for detangling, UVA/UVB protection and a double dose of AntiFadeComplex to prevent colour fadeage.

Pureology PurifyShampoo®
Pureology Serious Colour Care Purify Shampoo.

After swimming in the pool or ocean, shampoo hair with PurifyShampoo® to clarify hair of colourdamaging chemicals and salt.

Minimize breakage and gently detangle by spraying ColourMax on hair before combing with a wide-tooth comb.

Try to cut down on blow drying time. Let hair dry naturally a few days per week to preserve moisture levels.

Apply ColourMax and InstantRepair to damp hair for added smoothness and to control flyaways when air drying.

To control summer frizz apply InstantRepair to damp hair before blow drying.

PureOlogy products help protect hair from dryness and colour fadeage. Each PureOlogy product contains an exclusive AntiFadeComplex which is a proprietary blend of potent antioxidants and UVA/UVB sunscreens to help minimize oxidation, prevent damage and fadeage from UVA/UVB rays and maximize colour retention from start to finish.

Hair dries out in the summer so be sure to have your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks and schedule a professional Summer Hair Revitalizer Treatment with your stylist to help prevent split ends.

Simple Tips for Maintiang Hair During Summer by Les Haverty

Source: talkingmakeup.com

Here are some simple tips for maintaining hair and hair color during summer by Les Haverty, Artistic Director of FHI Heat, a manufacturer of professional hair tools.

“It’s almost that time of the year again” states Les Harvey “The beach, the swimming pools, and many outdoor activities are about to cause aggravation because they can adversely affect your hair’s moisture and color. These days the nice thing is that we have many helpful options to protect out investment in our hair.

Shampoo with hydrating color safe, sulfate-free shampoos: “These are usually the safest for daily use. I recommend sulfate-free shampoos because they use natural cleansers to clean the hair without using the harsh sulfate detergents that are responsible for degrading the color or low-lights you spent your hard earned money on. I would also recommend an acidifying conditioner. These are usually citrus-based conditioners which have a PH value between 3.0 and 3.7, and remember that hair’s natural PH is 4.5 to 5.5. Acidifying conditioners help seal the cuticle around the color molecules on the hair shaft and allow the color to last longer.”

Wash hair with tepid or lukewarm water: “…Washing with too hot water can actually open the cuticle removing the hair’s natural moisture and further dry out the hair making it feel like card board or a corn stalk. It also contributes to color loss…This can be done daily (for oily scalps), but if you are one with a dry scalp, every other day is okay as well. On in between days, try using a natural bristle brush and brush the hair from scalp to ends allowing the natural oils or sebum to cover the hair…VERY IMPORTANT, make sure you shampoo immediately following swimming in the pool.

Les Haverty
Les Haverty, Artistic Director of FHI Heat.

The chlorine and bromine used in today’s swimming pools can strip hair and discolor it. In the summer the sun can amplify these chemicals increasing the stress on the hair, leaving it very brittle. Also, wash your hair right after…ocean time. The Ocean contains massive amounts of salt, which can cause your hair color to fade as well. Add the sun’s solar energy to the mix and you will start to see the bleaching effect on hair, the sun is like a bleach factory…”

Conditioning hair: “I stick with the acidifying type for daily use…I would also try a hydrating conditioner once every two weeks to maintaining the softness and condition of the hair…for extremely dry and brittle hair try keeping a comb in the shower as well…comb the conditioner through the hair. This makes sure that the hair…absorbs it.”

Style hair with alcohol-free and silicon-free products: “…I would stay away from mousses, gels, and sprays containing alcohol. The non-alcoholic products work just as good, if not better because they are not damaging…For styling products I recommend serums that contain no drying silicon, but instead natural moisturizers, such as FHI’ Heat’s Hot Sauce which contains jojoba crystals…”

Finish hair with UV enriched sprays: “…Be careful not to apply too much as it will weight the hair down and the sun’s heat may actually make the hair look greasy.”

Use gentle heat styling tools featuring far-infrared heat (gentle, healthy heat), such as FHI Heat blow dryers, styling irons, and curling irons.

Les Haverty at-home tip for summer beach hair and skin spray:
-Boil 2 cups of bottled water.
-Add 4 tablespoons of SPF 40 or higher sunscreen (lotion or cream works best).
-Stir until well emulsified.
-Let cool.
-Put into a clean spray bottle with sprayer nozzle.
“I use this in my hair at the beach and also on my skin for a recharge in battling the sun’s harmful UV rays…it also gives my hair that nice shiny look!”

FHI Heat Brushes Up On Style

Source: talkingmakeup.com

As part of FHI Heat expansion as the leading-edge source for professional styling tools it created a new series of lightweight professional brushes. The brushes are offered in three design: Paddle, Cushion, and Round, each available in two convenient sizes.

According to Les Haverty, Artistic Director for FHI Heat, the groundbreaking Nano-Fuzeion technology first introduced to the industry by FHI Heat blow dryers and styling irons is now also utilized in the manufacturing of the new professional brush series.

FHI Heat Brush Series

“The combination of tourmaline and nano-silver in these brushes makes every blow-out a conditioning treatment, as well as a styling experience,” says Haverty. “To recreate the celebrity looks we’ve made famous on the red carpet, the screen, and the runway, hair must be healthy and in top condition. Damaged and dry hair is porous, brittle and unresponsive, so we developed these brushes to restore hair’s natural resiliency and shine as we style.”

Les Haverty
Les Haverty, Artistic Director for FHI Heat,

Haverty recommends the Paddle and Round styles for blow-drying, and the Cushion style for finishing. “I reach for the Round Brush when I want to blow dry volume into the hair, and when I want to shape a really concise design, like a flick or a tuck,” he says, “I use the Paddle Brush for detangling damp or dry hair, and also when I want to create a sleeker style a bit closer to the head. The Cushion Brush has curved corners, do it’s really great for maneuvering and finishing off the design with holding spray.”

Each FHI Heat brush retails for $15.

Availabe at fine hair salons and beauty stores nationwide, including ULTA locations.  For more inforamtion visit: www.fhiheat.com or call 877-FHI-HEAT (877-344-4328).

Summer Tips from the Hiro Haraguchi Salon

Source: talkingmakeup.com

Talking Makeup is excited to bring you helpful summer tips from the Hiro Haraguchi Salon in New York City.

Hiro Haraguchi has been studying, refining and perfecting the art of hair design for more than 25 years.  Born and raised in Japan, his unique aesthetic is a function of his Far Eastern training, combined with his work with a variety of Western hair types.  Relocating from Tokyo to New York, Hiro mastered the Sassoon cut, then worked successively with Suga, Oribe and Garren, ultimately becoming a top stylist himself.  During this period, he styled many shoots for Irving Penn, Richard Avedon and Kevin Aucoin as well.

Hiro Haraguchi with Vera Wang
Hiro Haraguchi with Vera Wang.

In 2002, Hiro opened the Hiro Haraguchi Salon in the landmark Art Deco Fuller Building on Madison Avenue and 57th street. There, Eastern tranquility meets Western sensibility. Clients luxuriate in peaceful Zen-like environment. It is truly a different world, as unique and sophisticated as the man who leads it. (He also as an outpost in the chic Hotel Gansevoort.)

Hiro’s signature look is timeless elegance with contemporary chic, progressive yet perfectionist. One of Hiro’s celebrity clients includes fashion designer Vera Wang: “Hiro is the master,” raves designer Vera Wang of her stylist over 15 years. “He is the best of the best.”  ”He can do a blunt cut better than anybody,” Wang adds. “In fact, his cuts last more than two months, rather than 2-3 weeks, as with many other hairdressers.”

Here are some summer tips from the Hiro Haraguchi Salon: Tip 1: For non-blondes: Brunettes don’t need a full head of highlights. Rather than covering your head in foils, have your colorist paint lighter pieces into your hair before rinsing out your color. This creates depth and dimension that enhances the natural tone of your hair.

The Hiro Haraguchi Salon

Tip 2: The buzz about short hair: Want to brighten up your short do with some highlights? Have your colorist concentrate your highlights on areas with the most length, like the front of your hair. Just say no to highlights at the shortest pieces near the back of your head-Zebra stripes are an unflattering look for anyone.

Tip 3: For a quick “drab” to “fab” makeover: When you don’t have the time or the cash for highlights, ask for a color-refreshing rinse. It takes 5 minutes and is a fraction of the costs of highlights. So you can look great on-the-go without breaking the bank.

Tip 4: The good, the bad and the unsightly: Good highlights last for three months. It’s always a bad idea to over highlight your hair-less is more! Keep unsightly roots under control with a single-process between touch-ups.

Tip 5: Not ready for commitment: If you’re looking for color, but nothing permanent, try clip-on multi-tone hair extensions, in such whimsical colors as bright pink, orange, and blue. They are perfect accessory to give hair a dramatic, yet temporary, splash of color for a night on the town.
