Product Review – Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Lifting Cream

You know that it’s probably time to start using anti-aging creams when you see teenage girls rockin’ the same outfit you wore to the eighth grade dance in 1989 (jean skirts with leggings, hello.) And when skinny jeans “came back” it occurred to me that my Guess/Bongo-acid-wash-jean-wearing-days were TWENTY YEARS AGO. These things, coupled with my recent discovery of my love for the local easy listening radio station, have driven me to worship at the alter of all things anti-aging. Enter Sensai Cellular Performance Lifting Cream by Kanebo International, a luxury brand available at Bergdorf’s.
I’m usually a drugstore skincare kind of gal, but one rad thing about being your friendly neighborhood beauty addict is that I get the chance to try products that I otherwise wouldn’t use. This is a Japanese brand, and their hook is that this line of products contains anti-aging botanicals that “act on multiple levels within the skin, ensuring all-round defense against aging and photo-aging.” The Lifting Cream is supposed to maintain flexibility, and create silky smooth skin that seems to glow from within. Gimme that glow! Sign me up!
What I liked about it
The 1.4 oz jar is heavy and contains a good amount of product, which is good considering that it retails for about $250.00. The packaging is really elegant, and you even get a cute little spatula so you don’t have to stick your fingers into the jar (my pet peeve). It even comes with a step-by-step guide of how to massage the product into your skin. The scent of the cream is soft and powdery, but not overwhelming. This product feels very thick and rich, and it moisturized the heck out of my skin. I would definitely rely on this is I lived in a dry climate.
What I didn’t like about it
After two weeks I can’t really say that my skin is lifted, but then again, I have to point out that I’m not that saggy/wrinkly to begin with. It’s also very pricey.
The final word
If you have dry skin and really high-end, luxury brands then you will probably enjoy this cream. It’s definitely an elegant splurge. For me it was top notch for moisturizing, however, I couldn’t really tell a difference in my skin’s of “flexibility and fineness of texture.” While I won’t be purchasing the Lifting Cream in the future, I might try some of the other less heavy products, like the Sensai Cellular Performance Emulsion I, a lighter lotion for oily and combo skin.
Tonight I’m going dancing for the first time in a long while. My friends and I are going to Cat Club in the city, and coincidentally it’s 80s night. That said, I’ll leave you with the ultimate eighth grade dance anthem, Salt n’ Pepa’s “Push It.” Enjoy!
